Planning future projects
My tapestry project is finished! It’s mostly finished. I am gathering supplies so I can permanently hang it up. I can’t help but dream up a new project or two to do.
As I was weaving the tapestry above, I often referred to this book. I want to get a warp ready to do some small tapestry projects to learn and explore some of the techniques in the book so I can use them in future tapestries.
I’m also itching to weave fabric and sew something with it. I’ve had this 20/2 white cotton in my stash for a few years! So I plan to weave enough to sew the Ashton sleeveless top from Helen’s Closet here. Inspired by Ann Johnson's low-water immersion dyeing techniques, I will dye the fabric before I sew the garment. I’m most familiar with it from her book Color by Accident, and you can download a free copy here. Since I want to wear this top this summer, I want to get this one on the loom soon!
I think to make all this manageable. I will put some other projects on the back burner, like my Ten Stitch Blanket, because I’m not likely working on it this summer. For the same reasons, I’m not likely to spin much wool this summer. So a few projects will hibernate until later in the fall.
I want to keep spinning on the cotton fiber and return to spinning for 15 minutes a day again. I want to get back to sock knitting again, but I’m not in the mood now, so I’m also letting those go into hibernation. I do hope to keep making granny squares this summer.
So my focus for the next few months will be weaving fabric, tapestry exploration, cotton spinning, and granny squares. I also plan to get the Whisper Lace Scarf to the tech editor this month and out to testing! The pattern was designed with wool yarn. I plan to crochet additional samples using 100% cotton and a linen-wool blend to see how that affects the outcome.
What projects are you working on this summer?
