Spiraling

One day the handspun yarn I like to keep out inspired me to grab a few colors and make some crocheted motifs.

I have to laugh because I’m so drawn to spirals! I found it relaxing to go round and round with one or more colors and make some large and some small shapes. I sometimes added texture to the spiral by working into the back loop.

I set this aside for a few weeks because I wasn’t quite sure what direction I wanted to go. Then, one night I got the motivation to start sewing them together.

I sewed two of them together to make an ornament. At the same time, the others are coming together to be a wall hanging.

Initially, I joined the motifs together using a whip stitch. However, I want a way to frame and hang it. So I decided to take out the whip stitching and hand-stitch the motifs to the fabric.

I like how this is working. Stitching to the fabric offers a more stable surface. I plan to add more embroidery embellishments. I like how the embroidery hoop frames this design.
